Tyne & Wear Start Life in Division Three with a Win

Montgomery & Radnor 17 v Tyne & Wear 22

  Tyne & Wear opened up the season with a superb 19-17 victory at Welshpool Social Club, over Montgomery & Radnor.

 

  Tyne & Wear recently promoted into the British Inter-County League Division 3 wasted no time in making their mark on the division. Excellent performances from the B sides saw the north-east side lead 11-7 overnight, only to see an inspired M&R A team stage a fight back, with Tyne & Wear's A stars collecting enough points needed to seal the victory with 3 games to spare.

 

   Scott "Coffee man" McParlin grabbed the honours for the Men's B with a 25.28 average in his 3-1 win. other winners included (averages in brackets), Gary Dunn (3-1) 22.31, Steve Hogg (3-1), 20.58, youngster Craig Ryan (3-1), 22.22, Lee Rump (3-2), 21.78, debutant Billy Todd (3-0) 23.86 and John Nicholson (3-1), 23.99.

 

  Ladies B found the mark and quickly wrapped up a win with the impressive Pat Davison collecting the Lady of the Match award with a brilliant 17.48 winning average in her 3-0 win, other victors were Edie Casey (3-0) 16.89, Jean Stanley (3-1) 11.30 and recent signing from Cumbria Ann Watson (3-2),

  In Ladies A Claire "the hammer" Proctor bashed in a Lady of the Match winning average of 18.98 with a 3-2 victory, other winning sets were added by Maureen Purvis (3-1), 17.54 and Welsh international Ann-Marie Potts (3-2), 15.58 in what proved to be a rare draw for T&W's superb Ladies.

 

  Sunderland's Paul Williams added another Man of the Match for the Mens A to his growing Trophy cabinet, Williams nicknamed "Toby Jug" won 3-1 with his average coming in at 27.60, other winners were tractor boy Andy Crane (3-1), 23.90, Team Captain Andy Chalmers (3-1), 27.01, Dave Bullerwell (3-2), 22.22 and Billy Todd with his second appearence of the weekend with a 3-1 win and average of 24.29.

 

Next up for the North-Easteners is Clwyd on Halloween lets hope the demons will be

smiling on us and we have a Screeeeeeeeeeam!
