THREE OUT OF THREE!

Tyne & Wear County Darts completed a memorable last gasp victory over Welsh side Gwynedd at Cheers Bar in Sunderland, extending their unbeaten run for the season to 3 games.

The promotion hopefuls went into the weekend top of the overall British Inter-County Division 3 table with their Welsh opponents sitting in second place.

Tyne & Wear initially led overnight 11-7 after some tight legs in Saturday’s B team matches.

Ladies B drew 3-3 with the first victory of the day coming from impressive Jean Stanley who recorded a 3-0 victory and a Lady of the Match winning average of 15.99, youngster Katherine Wilcock snatched a win 3-1 averaging 15.25. The Ladies B final win of the day came from debutant Catherine Dorthey who was victorious over 5 legs winning 3-2 with an average of 15.70.

Sunderland’s Davey White grabbed the headlines and the Man of the Match in the Mens B team on his very first county match with a terrific average of 24.64 winning 3-0, Willie McDonald and Billy Robson both playing super league out of The Globe in Gateshead also made winning starts to their Tyne & Wear careers, McDonald winning 3-2 with an average of 20.28 and Robson also needed 5 legs as he won 3-2 averaging 22.21. Another Debutant Neil Hardy claimed a nerve settling maiden win 3-1 averaging 20.79 including a 180 on his stage bow. The returning ever dependable Paul Hodge came back into the squad with a 22.66 average in his 3-1 win. The Red Hackle super league trio Dunn, Hogg and Duncan completed the day’s victory, with Gary

Dunn keeping his winning streak with a 3-2 win (21.81), Steve Hogg 3-1 (19.25) and Brian Duncan 3-0 in a tempestuous finale (14.45).

Last Seasons Championship winning Ladies A suffered a very rare defeat 4-2 at the hands of the experienced Welsh Ladies; Sue Edwards once again notched a win taking Tyne & Wears first point of the day with a 3-0 win and average of 20.59. Lady of the Match honours went to “Megnificant!” Meg Cullen who took a 3-1 victory in a high scoring match and successful average of 20.84.

In the Men’s A “Toby Jug” Paul Williams proved once again why he is one of the top stars of Men’s darts in Tyne & Wear with his second Man of the Match award of the season averaging 28.36 in a 3-0 win, Williams was followed on stage by the ever consistent heavy scoring Steve Robertson who also secured 3-0 win with a superb 25.05 average. Dave Bullerwell kept the side going with another win relying on his nerves of steel to snatch a final leg decider 3-2 (22.64). Paul McGowan also came through five legs to win 3-2 with the left hander averaging 22.66. Scott McParlin set up a tense finale with Tyne & Wear needing to win the final match to claim the win and prevent Gwynedd grabbing a last gasp draw winning 3-1 with an average of 22.34. Hero of the day was Neil Rose who roared on by vociferous home support was victorious 3-0 with an average of 21.78 including a 102 checkout with his opponent sitting on a finish.

After a tight weekend Tyne & Wear stay atop of BICC Division 3, next up is Worcestershire who jumped up into second over the weekend away on January 16/17th
